There are several requirements about your cookie usage, that you must comply with within EU. This page will guide you through them and our recommendations in relation to the requirements.
This guide covers the following aspects:
General Information about Cookies
What are cookies?
Cookies are data, which are stored on your computer when you surf online. The purpose of this data is to remember your behaviour from previous visits to a given website or online store.
How are cookies used on a HostedShop website?
HostedShop automatically puts two cookies on the front end (internal / 1. party cookies) of your web solution. The first cookie is for session-id, which is a temporary cookie used to chain the visitor to data for shopping cart, choice of country, customer login etc. This cookie only contains a unique ID. Second, HostedShop places a "Remember login" cookie at customer login. This function remembers the login for the customer's next visit to the website and is thereby part of a good service. The two cookies are documented below.
HostedShop cannot work without cookies. Without cookies the session-id will not be set and the website cannot remember the contents of the shopping cart etc.
Cookie for sessions id (session-cookie)
Name of cookie: "PHPSESSID"
Lifespan of cookie: Until browser is closed
Function of cookie: Remembers session-id (which the web server uses to chain the visitor to data for shopping cart, choice of country, customer login etc.)
Cookie for remember login
Name of cookie: "user"
Lifespan of cookie: 30 days
Function of cookie: Remembers login information
How to turn cookies off
Cookies can be turned off via the settings in your browser
There are two exceptions regarding the demand of consent. The first exception occurs when your visitor explicitly requested your service. The second occurs when cookies are inevitable in order to deliver the service at all. An example of this is load balancing and in some cases the function that remembers to content of the shopping basket.
What are the rules regarding cookie information on my website?
The rules are constantly changing, we therefore advice you to read the more specific details on the following websites:
We recommend you to:
You need to create a text page that describes your cookie usage. This will enable your visitors to see for which purposes you are using your cookies and how they are able to delete them again. Read more here.
As mentioned, you need to activate your HostedShop cookie box. This can be activated under Settings. The box is placed in the bottom of your website and demands the visitors consent before it is concealed. The box will also link further to a page which describes your cookie usage. Read more here.
Note: The requirements are the same for your mobile site.
