4.3.1. Create variant type

You need to create a “variant type” before you can attach it to a product.

Example – Create variant type

In the following we go through an example of how you can create a variant type. As an example we use the variant type “Size”, because we are going to use this variant for our T-shirt products.

1. Create variant type
To create a variant type you need to select “Variant types” under the “Web shop” fan. A list of your current variant types will show. Click on “Create new variant type”.

2. Title*
In the “Title” field you should enter the name of your variant type (will show up on your web shop when the customer is looking at a product). We enter “Size” so that the customer can see that he can choose the size of the T-shirt.

3. Title*
Click on “Go to product variants” to return to your variant overview. Click on the icon  next to the variant “Size”. You can now enter the sizes (variant data) that should belong to the variant type. You do this by entering titles. Title is the name of the variant data that should be attached to the variant type.

We enter “Small”, which is the first T-shirt size.

You are free to choose how many times you wish to repeat this step. We repeat it 2 times more to create “Medium” and “Large”.

4. Sorting
Click on “Go to product variants” to return to your variant type overview. In the column “Sorting and Data” you can see a text box with the number 0 next to each variant data (Small, Medium and Large).
You need to enter 1 in the text box next to the T-shirt size you wish to be the first option. Because we want “Large” to be the first option we enter 1 in the text box next to “Large”. The next option should be “Medium” so therefore we enter 2 in the text box next to “Medium”. The last option should be “Small”, so we enter 3 in the text box next to “Small”. The completed order is therefore:

1 Large
2 Medium
3 Small

When you have entered the right sorting, you click “Save sorting”. You are now done creating the variant type “Size”.
