9.1.1. Get started with Google Analytics

Under “Modules” in the HostedShop menu you can find the item “Google Analytics”. Here you enter a “Google Analytics Account id”, which is the only thing you need to integrate with Google Analytics. We have done the rest for you!

To get an Google Analytics account, and thereby also an Account id you need to go to Google Analytics’ home page:

http://www.google.com/analytics/en-GB/.

Here you select “Sign up now”, after which it is possible to get a Google account or log in to your Google account. When you have an account and/or are logged in you get the front page “Analytics settings”, which is an overview over your web solutions that are registered with Google Analytics.

To register a web solution you need to click ”Add website profile” at the bottom. Here you select “Add a profile for a new domain” and enter your primary domain – typically without www in front (e.g. smart-web.dk). Finally click “Finish”.

On the next page you get a page with “Information about tracking code”. In the text box there is e.g. this line (notice: fictitious account ID):

var pageTracker = _gat._getTracker("UA-1511094-4");

The string ”UA-1511094-4” is exactly what you enter in HostedShop.

Finally click ”Finish” in Google Analytics, after which the domain has been added and is ready to be measured traffic on. You can see if your code or domain is entered correctly under Status.

If it is set up correctly:          Receiving Data
If it is set up incorrectly:        Tracking is not installed

Under “Control status” you can see the tracking code for the domain again. If you are in doubt of whether your domain is entered correctly you need to click “Edit”. “Edit” on “Information about main web page profile” gives the opportunity to change the domain.
