9.2.1. Create a PayPal company/business account

Open your browser and go to the website www.paypal.com. This is where you register an account the first time and where you log in and get an overview over your payments later on.

Click on Sign up, select your country and language and thereafter business. It is important to create a company account as this gives you access to receive online payments. On the following page you enter the company's informations. In the first step you enter the e-mail address that will appear in the payment process. In the second step you enter the e-mail address that will act as your username for PayPal. The rest of the fields are explained on the page.

Finally you are asked to add a credit card. The credit card indicate the account that PayPal should transfer the money to when your customers make payments on the web shop. When you have entered your credit card informations you are logged in to your account and need to approve that PayPal can withdraw a small amount from your account. They do this to make sure that you are the owner of the account. The payment gets an id-number and is registered on your account excerpt. The payment will be made within 1-3 working days. This number should be entered in your PayPal account under "Confirm my cash- or credit card".

In addition to this PayPal has two other verification steps:
The second step is to confirm your e-mail address. You receive a registering e-mail from PayPal, with a link "Click here to activate your account". Click on the link, log in and your e-mail address is approced. Until the two steps above are completed you cannot receive online payments.

The third step is optional and concerns the removal of the account limits, which are limits for how much money one can receive on the PayPal account. To raise this limit PayPal needs to be sent identification, for instance a driver's licence.

Apart from the verification you need to configure your PayPal account. First click "Profile" in the main menu at the top and select "Website Payment Preferences". The following settings should be changed:

Auto-return for Website Payments

Auto-return:      On

Return-URL:        http://web-adresse.dk

Payment Data Transfer - optional

Payment Data Transfer:    On

Click "Save" and you will be redirected to the main menu again. Hereafter select "Instant Payment Notification Preferences". Here select "Edit" and you should tick the box and enter http://domainname.dk as notification-URL.

Until these steps are completed you cannot receive online payments.
